What a wonderful week Year 5 have had! Thank you for all the amazing effort that went into all the World Book Day costumes. Check out this wonderful Maleficent costume!

English  

This week in English, we have started to read our Term 4 book 'The Adventures of Odysseus'. We read the prologue, which introduced the Trojan War to us, and Chapter 1, which introduced us to Odysseus. We also learned about a number of Greek mythological creatures before designing our own and writing a non-chronological report on it using technical vocabulary. Next week, we will be describing various characters from 'The Adventures of Odysseus'.

Maths

This week in Maths, we have been using our additional, subtraction, multiplication and division skills to solve different multistep problems involving these operations. We practised solving with our partners before moving on to solve similar problems independently. Next week, we will be converting between units of time.

World Book Day 

As part of World Book Day, we studied a number of different poems by Michael Rosen. We performed 'Nat and Anna' from 'The Breakfast Book' using tips from Michael himself, we created our own versions of 'What If' one of Michael's silly but imaginative poems and created our own version of the Quentin Blake illustrated 'Things We Say' using watercolours.

Afternoons 

We finished off our 'Material World' topic learning about reversible and non reversible changes to mixtures made from solids, liquids and/or gases. We also focused on the properties of materials and designed our dream bedrooms labelling the materials used and the reasons for their selections. Next week, we will begin our new Topic, 'Gods and Mortals'.

Home Learning

In English, we drew our own mythological creatures this week. For home learning, we would like the children to make a 3D version of their creatures. This could be using any materials/format of the children's choice. We look forward to seeing them next week! Please could they be handed in by Friday 11th March.

• PE will continue to be on a Wednesday. Children should come to school in (weather appropriate) PE kit. Please can we ensure that children are in the correct PE kit (blue/black tracksuit and white t-shirt).

• In Term 4, a bonus PE session will continue in place of Sports Project. Children should continue to come to school in normal school uniform and trainers on a Tuesday.

• Please could children continue to read frequently and quiz on AR. Children should be reading at home a minimum of four times a week.
