Year 5

Welcome to Term 5 and the Year 5 blog. Each week we will update you with what we have been learning.

Reminders:

Please bring in a plain white t-shirt  that can be drawn on . We will need it for our topic.

“My Home Town” – home learning task

Where we grow up plays a huge part in our lives – shaping who we are, what we do, who we know and where we go! For your home learning project for ‘Good to be Me’, over the course of Term 5, we would like you to create something that tells us all about what ‘My Home Town’ means to you. This home learning can take any form – there is no right or wrong way but you can be as creative as you like!

PE every Wednesday afternoon. Please ensure children have the correct PE kit in school.

Year 5 children are expected to read for at least 10 minutes every day and hand in their reading record daily.

Learning this week:

This week we have read our new class book ‘The Highwayman’. We completed a research task about highwaymen; planned the narrative with our talk partners and wrote a prequel to the poem. We continued to focus on accurate sentence construction and use of figurative language.

In maths we have been learning how to add and subtract measures and how to use the bar model to solve multistep problems. We answered a number of fluency and reasoning questions to help deepen our understanding.

This term we are exploring the values theme ‘ Good to be me’. We have all for an ‘I Can / Reflections Book’ where we will be recording positive thoughts about our day.  We also discussed self-respect and self-belief and wrote a poem about ourselves. It had to focus on all the positives. Over the coming weeks we’ll be finalising them and performing them to the class.

 Home Learning:

Please complete the task set on mymaths.

SPaG – We have been learning about adverbs this week. Identify adverbs that DO NOT end in ly.

There is no right or wrong way to complete a Love to Learn task! Please be as imaginative or as creative as you would like! Love to Learn tasks should be returned on the Wednesday following them being set. Whilst books may not be formally marked, in class we will spend time looking at and enjoying what everyone has learned at home and rewards and house points will be given!
