Chilton Primary School

One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News

Welcome back to a brand new term!   The children have settled into the expectations of Year 6 incredibly well and have 'hit the ground running' in terms of their attitude to their learning.  In fact, on the very first day, all children impressed the teachers on how well they sat, participated in and listened to Mrs. Law's assembly, setting the standard for the rest of the school.  Keep it up Year 6!

This week, the children have begun their new book 'Way Home'.  They made predictions based on the front cover and generated vocabulary for a setting description.  They then used drama as a tool to create atmosphere that would then help them with their learning.

In maths, pupils scrutinised a range of resources and considered how they would be of use to them in lessons.  It was great fun to try to be creative with how resources would be beneficial!

Currently, staff are voting for the next 8 House Captains to represent the school.  Everybody has an equal opportunity to become a House Captain.  Love to Learn this week will be due on Monday (usually tasks are due on Wednesdays).  We would like children to apply for the role of House Captain by writing a letter outlining their skills, attributes and an explanation of why they would make a successful House Captain.  On Monday, children will be asked to give a short presentation for their application.  Things you may like to consider:

- How you show the Chilton Way in school and in your learning

- Your passions and aspirations

- If you have represented the school before (sport competitions, Mastermind, etc...)

- Your strengths

- How you may stand out from others

After all the presentations have been completed, the new roles will be announced in the first Chilton Heroes assembly (Friday 13th September).

Although you do not have to apply to be a House Captain, we would like to encourage all children to attempt, particularly if you feel that this would take you out of your comfort zone.  Year 6 is all about taking risks and showing courage; the Year 6 teachers greatly respect those who rise to the challenge!  Good luck and enjoy!

Thank you to those who were able to attend the Open Class Sessions on Friday morning or afternoon.  For those of you who were unable, a link to the PowerPoint presentation is attached.  Alternatively, please feel free to contact your child's class teacher at any time.
