One Childhood, One Chance

What an end to Term 3!

This week marks the last of our third term in reception. It has been yet another successful term in which the children have shown their enthusiasm towards learning. At the beginning of the week, we had our Safer Internet Day in which the children learnt how to keep themselves safe when using devices online. We have finished the week off by exploring Chinese New Year celebrations. Our exit point for 'Lunar New Year' was tasting delicious Chinese food, I am sure the children have expressed with you their likes and dislikes to the variety of foods they tasted.

Thank you for your continuous support with the children’s learning at home, we have enjoyed looking through the superhero designs and are equally excited to see next terms homework, due back in the 22nd February. We hope to see some of you at the Disco tonight which is running between 3:15 and 4:15.

Important Dates:

Sponsored Walk for The Royal Marsden – Monday 20th February

You may be aware that one of our children has spent the last three and a half years being treated for leukaemia. That treatment has now finished and we would like to celebrate this momentous occasion and mark the end of a difficult time for part of our community by running a sponsored walk in aid of The Royal Marsden. This will be held on the first day back in Term 4 – Monday 20th February.

Children are invited to come in to school wearing their own clothes and we would encourage them to choose the brightest colour clothing that they have. We would also recommend wearing trainers!

We are going to walk in a relay from the school, differing distances depending on the children’s ages, over Chalk Hill and to the Viking Ship and back (the youngest children will walk the shortest distances and so on).

We are asking for a voluntary donation or for the children to voluntarily collect what they can to be donated to The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

We hope that this will be a celebratory occasion as well as raising some funds for an excellent and much needed cause!

Book Fair in school – Monday 27th to Thursday 30th March

Parent-Teacher Consultation Week – Monday 27th March – Friday 31st March

End of Term at usual time (3:15) – Friday 31st March

This term we have seen such great efforts from all the reception children in their reading and writing. The children have been showing an increased interest in writing words and simple sentences using their phonic knowledge. The children are becoming more aware of using capital letters in their writing and full stops at the end of sentences. Thank you to all your efforts in home reading as we know it can be task that is not always simple or easy to fit into your busy schedules.

This week, we have had a lot of fun learning about capacity. The children have enjoyed emptying and filling containers whilst using language such as full, nearly full, empty, half full, half empty and nearly empty. The children are able to explain what container has more/less and how they know. Next term we will be learning one more and one less than a number.

This week, the children have explored ways to stay safe when using the Internet on different devices. The children talked about how they should ask an adult when using technology online and how they should always tell an adult if something is not right, or they are unsure of what they have seen/heard. We finished the week off with celebrations, focusing on the Chinese New Year. The children have enjoyed dressing up, making food and writing in Chinese. Our exit point was eating Chinese food. The children were adventurous in tasting food that they hadn’t tried before.

We hope you all have a restful half-term, and we look forward to seeing you back on the 20th February.
