One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly news! 28.03.2024

Last week of Term 4!

As we reach the end of Term 4, we want to commend the children on their achievements and learning. We have delved into exploring all things Space, sharing our home creations, discussing the facts we have learnt with year 5 pupils, who were also learning about Space and listening to music created around planets during our music lessons. It’s sure to say that the children’s knowledge on space is incredible! We have immersed ourselves in developing our maths knowledge on shapes, patterns, number bonds to name a few on top of reviewing our maths fact of the weeks. The children excel them selves in their reading and writing, whether that be during our Read Write inc lessons, writing sessions, power play or at home. This does not go unnoticed as the children begin to confidently own their writing and show a great pride in what they have achieved. The excitement when learning about the Hindu festival, Holi, was such a joy to observe. We kick started with learning a Holi dance, making a very realistic bonfire, and eating special snacks. Towards the end of the term, the children studied all things easter comparing the similarities and differences between how countries celebrate Easter. Not to forget our parents evenings, thank you to all who came and also a huge well done to all of the children in Reception.

Read Write Inc

The children have been working extremely hard at their independent writing, using their phonic knowledge gained from their Read Write Inc groups. We have been encouraging reception to write independently during their Power Play, which we are pleased to say they take in their stride! We are proud of the children’s dedication to their reading and writing, thank you for all of the efforts made at home too.

Here is the ‘Red word song’ back due to popular demand:

Maths

This week in Maths, the children have been finding number bonds to 6,7,8,9 and 10. We have been working as a team to find all the possibilities of number bonds, working hard to match the bunnies with the carrots, nests with the eggs and plants with the plant pots. The children have been using numicon to support their learning, they really enjoyed finding the numicon to make 10 and complete the monster.

Next term, we will be exploring how quantities can be distributed equally (within 10) and represent odd and even number patterns within numbers up to 10.

Thematic- Easter

This week, the children have enjoyed learning about Easter. They have discovered what easter means to people all over the world and how different countries and cultures celebrate. We have designed our own eggs and using this design decorated real eggs! Then, using our decorated eggs, completed an egg rolling competition. The children enjoyed eater egg hunts and a beautiful eater bonnet parade, thank you for all the efforts made- the children looked amazing in their home made hats.

Next term the children will be learning about growth.

Home learning

Next term our topic will be ‘Growth’.  For your child’s love to learn challenge, we would like you and your child to plant a seed of your choice.  Please could you detail the changes that happen to the seed/plant as it grows. Also note what you need to do to the seed/plant in order to help it grow.  You could do this by taking photos or asking your child to draw a picture of the seed/plant at various stages of growth.  We ask that you return your child’s love to learn book by Wednesday 17th April. We understand your seed may not be fully grown by then but hopefully the children will have seen some changes. They are welcome to bring in their plant to show if they wish.

Many Thanks

From the Foundation Stage Team
