One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! w/b 14.11.22

This week has been anti-bullying week, so we have been having lots of discussions about bullying in PSHE and have loved singing along to the Odd Socks Song!

Read, Write Inc

This week we continued our Read, Write Inc. lessons. We have been focussing on our speedy reading and making some great progress spotting our special friends before fred talking the words! We have been learning to tick and fix our own spellings and are doing a really great job.

In each reading folder, there is a sound card and list of red words. Any practise with these at home would be extremely helpful and support your child’s reading and writing at home.

Maths

This week in maths we have continued our learning around money. We looked at how we can exchange amounts more than one way and this has involved lots of counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s. We played shop and were challenged to find the correct combination of coins to buy different things!

Ant-bullying week and Odd Socks Day

On Monday we spoke about the odd socks we had chosen to wear and why we were wearing them; to celebrate differences and unite against bullying. We discussed what bullying is  and then we sat in a circle and told the class what we are going to choose do to stop bullying. Afterwards, we designed our own pair of odd socks!

We had a special workshop with our SENCO all about making the right choices and how this can be difficult sometimes and what we can do to help others. We read ‘Little Rabbit Foo Foo’ and discussed whether the rabbit was making good choices in the story. Afterwards, we had some serious conversations about what bullying means, what it can look like and how it makes people feel. We looked at some cartoons and discussed what kind of bullying was taking place in each (physical, verbal, emotional, online). Then we discussed how we could respond in these instances and what a good friend would do: tell bullies to stop, walk away, and talk to a teacher.

Next week…

Next week we will be continuing to work hard on our sounds, reading and writing in our Read, Write Inc lessons.

In Maths, we will be learning about measurement and distance.

In our afternoon sessions, we will be doing Geography, completing tasks and activities all around the continents and oceans.

Love to Learn:

This week we would like you to make an anti-bullying advertisement. What message would you like to share about what we can do to stop bullying? This can be recorded in any way you wish - a drawing, a photo or even a video!

We would also like you to practise your sounds as much as possible :)

Other news:

Tuesday will be the Sports Project day. Children will need to wear full school uniform this day with trainers.

Thursday will be PE day. Please can the children come into school in their PE kit. Just a reminder this should be blue or black shorts/ trousers and a plain white top.

Doors will continue to open in the morning at 8:30am. Registration will be at the slightly earlier time of 8:45am (doors close at this time)

Read at 3 - Every Friday at 3 our doors will be open for you to come in and read with your child, please note, this will be for the full 15 minutes and children should not leave any earlier. Their books will be set up and ready for you to come in and enjoy listening to their wonderful reading.

Please listen to your child read as much as possible at home and record this in their reading records. Every week, one child from each class will receive a reading certificate in our Chilton Heroes assembly and there are also individual class prizes to be won :)

Dates to remember:

Friday 18th November – Yr 1 Come Dine with Me, and Crazy Hair Day for Children in Need

Monday 12th December – Yr 1 Christmas performance at 9:15am… We can't wait!

On Tuesday 29th November, the Chilton Fundraisers will be holding a 'Christmas Lantern Festival' from 3.15-4.15 on the school field. Mr. Redwood and the school choir will be leading the Christmas carols. There will be hot chocolate and festive cakes available, a tombola, a Christmas shop and a handful of festive games to play.

On Monday 28th November, we will be having a non-school uniform day. On this day we ask the children to bring in a bottle for our Tombola. In addition, on Monday 21st November, we will be sending a white bag home. We ask the children decorate these and add a treat to the bag, for example some sweets or crayons. We would like these brought into school on Monday 28th November, ready to be sold at the Festival on Tuesday.
