One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! w/c 12/12/22

Read, Write Inc

This week we continued our Read, Write Inc. lessons. We have continued working on our writing skills - using the correct sounds and making it descriptive.  Some of us read a non-fiction book about puppets and had the chance to make our own puppets out of different materials. We loved doing this, and it helped us to produces some great writing!

In each reading folder, there is a sound card and list of red words. Any practise with these at home would be extremely helpful and support your child’s reading and writing at home.

Maths

This week in maths we have been learning all about statistics. We have learnt how to record and interpret information using tally charts and pictograms. We loved taking ownership of our learning, asking our friends their favourite colours and our teachers their favourite presents in order to create our own charts! We discussed the most popular and least popular options and practised adding amounts to find totals and taking away amounts to find the difference.

R.E.

This week we have been learning all about giving gifts and what Christians believe about Christmas...we hope you enjoyed our own rendition of the Nativity! Performing really helped us understand the sequence of events and we did a fantastic job of retelling the story verbally and illustrating it with pictures. We also spoke about giving and receiving gifts; why we give them and the importance of showing gratitude. We discussed the gifts that the Three Kings had offered the Son of God and thought about what we might give to the baby Jesus. We came up with some creative ideas, including a Peugeot!

Celebrations!

We ended the week with a festive film and party to get into the spirit of Christmas. We looked very smart in our festive jumpers and had lots of fun joining in with party games and dancing to all the Christmas classics. The party food was delicious, big thanks to the parents for bringing in such a spread! On Friday we had a Christmas lunch with all the trimmings!

Next term…

Our Topic next term is I Care About Me! We will be covering Science, History and D&T as we learn all about how to stay healthy by eating well, avoiding germs and exercising. To kick the learning off, on Monday the 9th January we will be taking part in a special aerobics fitness class, so please come to school dressed in your exercise gear - 80s headbands and lycra is encouraged!

In Maths, we will start the term off with a unit on telling the time.
