One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! w/b 20.3.23

Take a look at the fabulous learning we have done this week…

Read, Write Inc

This week we have continued learning our sounds. We have been continuing to work hard on reading alien words like; plone, chake, emp and lig! You can play wonderful games around alien words at home, name the alien, where you can make up a random name and children have to read it, build an alien; similar to hang man, but every letter or special friend they get right, a part of the aliens body is built or they could simply draw and make up alien names using their sounds and special friends! Please continue read at home. Practising spotting special friends before reading the word helps to make sure you are reading accurately. For an extra challenge, take note of the punctuation used in your books!

Some of you may have seen comments in your child’s reading record about re-reading their reading books. We are encouraging this to help support their fluency and confidence.

In each reading folder, there is a sound card and list of red words. Any practise with these at home would be extremely helpful and support your child’s reading and writing at home.

Every morning can all children place their reading folders inside their house trays in the conservatory please :) This helps us keep track of their reading and how many books they have read. Thank you.

This week in maths we have been looking at fractions! We found out that 2 halves make a whole. We also know that 2 halves need to be equal. We have also looked at quarters! We have worked so hard this week in recognising fractions of shapes!

Thematic Curriculum

This week we finished off our wonderful Explorers topic! We went on a wonderful local walk looking for human and physical features of Ramsgate! Take a look at what we found.

This week in RE we have been looking at what Jesus taught us. We started the week by looking at the life events of Jesus and freeze framing the important events! We then read the parable of the lost son, and used puppets to act this out. Towards the end of the week we learnt about the Good Samaritan and what Jesus taught at the Sermon on the Mount. Take a look at what we got up to!

Love to Learn:

This week we would love for you to cut something into halves and quarters. This could be a piece of paper or even a pizza! This could be recorded any way you wish!

Rock your socks!

Every year on March 21, people all around the world come together to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day by wearing brightly coloured, mismatched socks. March 21 is symbolic because people with Down syndrome have 3 copies of their 21st chromosome.

We had a wonderful day learning all about Down Syndrome and were even lucky enough to read some wonderful books to help us learn more!
