One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News W/b Monday 3rd October - Team Royal and Team Indigo

Maths

In Maths this week we have been focusing on subtraction. We have used the vocabulary minus, subtract, take away and difference to help us solve problems. We started the week by subtracting multiples of 10 to a 2 digit or 3 digit number. We then moved on to subtracting a 2 digit number – a 2 digit number or 3 digit – a 2 digit number.

We used a hundred square to support our learning. We are becoming so confident at using them!

RWI/English

This week in RWI and English we have been concentrating on our set 3 sounds and re-reading our sentences to check it makes sense. We have also been checking for capital letters, spelling mistakes and full stops.

SPaG

This week in SPaG, we have been focusing our learning on the prefix – un and suffix – ing and –ed.

We have been looking closely at root words and seeing how the meaning of a word can change if you were to ass a prefix or suffix e.g. kind – unkind, look – looked, jump – jumping.

Topic

This week in Topic we have been historians and geographers when learning about Christopher Columbus. We started off learning about who he was and what he was famous for. We then learnt how he would use a compass to help him find places when on his adventures.  We learnt the directions north, east, south, west AND north east, south east, south west and north west. Take a look at us in action.

Other News

Monday is our Sports Project day. Please can children still wear their full school uniform with trainers.

Tuesday is our P.E day. Please can the children come to school in their P.E kit. Just a reminder this should be blue or black shorts/trousers and a plain white top.

Doors will continue to open in the morning at 8:30am. Registration will be at the slightly earlier time of 8:45am (doors close at this time).

We are also fortunate enough to have a woodland area at school where we can learn and explore and a playground that can accumulate many puddles. Please if you can, could your child bring in wellies that are named in a bag. We have facilities where they can be kept at school.

Read at 3

Thank you to all the parents, grandparents and adults that were able to attend the last few weeks. Read at 3 with the children. It was lovely to see you all and hear everyone read. We welcome you all to come to hear your child Read at 3 if you can every Wednesday. Please note this is for the full 15 minutes and children will be unable to leave any earlier. The children will be ready for you to come and hear their wonderful reading at 3.
