One Childhood, One Chance

Week beginning Monday 6th February 2023 Team Indigo and Team Royal

Wow, what a fantastic term we have had in Team Indigo and Team Royal, take a look at what we have been up to this week….

Maths

We have been amazing mathematicians and done incredibly well this week we are so proud of how hard you have all worked! We have learnt how to divide with remainders using the sharing and grouping method. Below is an example of the methods used:

Guided Reading

This week in Guided Reading we have had looked at our questions we could ask Traction Man in our hot seat. We have also used our drama skills and made Traction Man puppets we then retold the story using them and made sure we used expression and different voices.

RWI/English

This week in English we ended our book Traction Man is Here by Mini Grey. To start the week we focused on our present tense verbs and wrote the story in present tense. Towards the end of the week we looked at past tense and wrote the end of the story in past tense. We have really enjoyed this book and had some fantastic adverbs and adjectives to give our sentences lots of detail!

This week in RWI we have been focusing on building up their fluency when reading, this included their pace, speed, expressions and reading punctuation. Any additional practice at home will be hugely beneficial.

R.E

This week is our RE week we have been looking at Buddhism and to understand how Siddhartha Gautama came to be known as ‘the Buddha’.

Love 2 Learn

Sponsored Walk for The Royal Marsden – Monday 20th February

You may be aware that one of our children has spent the last three and a half years being treated for leukaemia. That treatment has now finished, and we would like to celebrate this momentous occasion and mark the end of a difficult time for part of our community by running a sponsored walk in aid of The Royal Marsden. This will be held on the first day back in Term 4 – Monday 20th February. Children are invited to come in to school wearing their own clothes, and we would encourage them to choose the brightest colour clothing that they have. We would also recommend wearing trainers! We are going to walk in a relay from the school, differing distances depending on the children’s ages, over Chalk Hill and to the Viking Ship and back (the youngest children will walk the shortest distances and so on). We are asking for a voluntary donation or for the children to voluntarily collect what they can to be donated to The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. We hope that this will be a celebratory occasion as well as raising some funds for an excellent and much needed cause!
