One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 24.11.23

What another great week for Team Aqua and Team Topaz. Check out what we have been up to!

Maths

This week in maths we have looked at fractions of shapes using half’s, quarters and thirds. Towards the end of the week, we even looked at reasoning questions that represented fractions we have looked at so far this week. We discussed how to answer the question with our learning partners and then proved out answer using playdough and cutters. The children were all amazing at fractions this week and we are all so proud of them, well done!

Fact of the week!

Next week our Fact of the Week is

2 + 7 = 9

English

This week in English we started our new book Stick Man by Julia Donaldson. This week we have Sequence the story and summarise what is happening. Next we identified rhyming words and clarified vocabulary we were unsure of. Lastly, we answered questions about the text. Here is an example of the questions we asked.

RWI

In RWI this week we have been focusing on building up fluency when reading, this included focusing on pace, speed, expressions and reading punctuation. Any additional practice at home will be hugely beneficial.

SPAG (Spellings, Punctuation and Grammar)

This week in SpaG we have been looking at the sound ‘j’ with, j, g, ge, and dge. We have learnt that these sounds all sound the same.

Thematic curriculum

This week we have continued the unit Fire Fire! This week we learnt about the aftermath of The Great Fire of London. We learnt only a small number of people died but around 13,000 houses and 87 churches were burnt down. We created our own designs ensuring there were gaps between the houses and houses were made
of stone, not wood. Later in the week we wrote a letter as someone who was at The Great Fire of London.

Next week in:

Next week in English we will continue our book Stick Man by Julia Donaldson. We will focus on emotive language, using commas in a list, writing Rhetorical questions and starting a diary entry.

Next week in Thematic we will be continuing our unit Fire, Fire! We will be looking at Samuel Pepys diary and decide what is good information and not good information based on the Great Fire of London. Later in the week we will think about what questions we would ask Charles II on his decisions helping London after the Great Fire of London.

Next week in maths we will be looking at statistics we will be representing and reading data in a variety of ways. We will look at a pictograms, tally charts, Venn, Carroll and block diagrams.
