Weekly News! 26.04.24

What a great week Team Aqua and Team Topaz have had Check out what we have been up to!

Maths

This week in Maths, we have been looking at number and place value! We started the week by learning how to read and write numbers in written word, we looked at one more and one less of a given number, we partitioned 2 digit numbers into tens and ones and also in non-standard partitioning and estimated values on number lines using our place value knowledge.

Next week we will be looking at mass!

Fact of the week!

Next week our Fact of the Week is 9 X 5 = 45

English

This week in English we have been learning about past, present and future tense. We focused our learning on past and present tense verbs when considering viewpoint. On Friday, we used this learning to aid us to write a diary entry as Stanley the rabbit from Emily Brown and the Thing. We considered actions and feelings when being this character.

Next week we will be looking at directed speech, onomatopoeias, verbs and adverbs when creating our very own narrative!

Guided Reading

This week in Guided Reading we continued learning about Emily Brown and the Thing. We started the week by looking at silly stuff poetry, focusing on repetitive phrases! We continued this learning by adding in onomatopoeia’s to enhance and make the poetry more engaging. We then wrote questions to the characters. We had to ensure our questions were linked to the book for example ‘What was the scariest part of helping the Thing?’ We later became the characters in the story to complete hot seating! When in the hot seat, we asked the character the questions we wrote the previous day.

  Thematic

This week in Thematic we were scientists! We used our learning last week to investigate what materials would be appropriate for a t-shirt and an apron. We had to bend, twist, stretch and squash materials to see which we felt had the right properties and would be the most suitable.

Next week we will be designers by learning how to join two materials together in a variety of ways!
