Year 3 Weekly News - 18th November 2022

Year 3 Weekly News 18th November 2022

Another fantastic week in Year 3. It has been anti-bullying week this week, and we’ve done some incredible learning about this and started the week with odd socks day!

Let's have a look at what we’ve been learning about.

In maths this week, we’ve been learning about 2D shapes and 3D shapes. We looked at their properties including how many vertices, edges and faces these shapes have. We even made our own 3D shapes using sticks and blue tac. This was a fantastic time! We learnt the names of our shapes as well so feel free to test us on these! Next week, we will be learning about statistics including tables, bar charts and pictograms.

In English this week we have continued to read our story ‘Stone Age Boy’, by Satoshi Kitamura. We’ve been writing information texts about our knowledge of the Stone Age and included many of the features we recognised in these texts last week. This included headings, subheadings, paragraphs, pictures and captions. We also practised different types of sentences for our information texts such as compound sentences, complex sentences, statements, questions and exclamations. We’ve put a lot of effort into making sure our work looks nice and presentable.

Anti-bullying week

This week has been anti-bullying week, and we started it off with odd sock day. We discussed how we can get help for our worries and problems and who we can talk to both at home and at school. We read the stories ‘Ruby Finds a Worry’ by Tom Percival and ‘The Don’t Worry Book’ by Todd Parr and discussed how we could help them. We’ve made worry monsters, and STOP posters where we’ve discussed how we can recognise and manage unkind behaviours. This has been a really useful week for us to understand healthy relationships.

Mr Allen’s group – monkey, donkey, trolley, chimney, jockey, turkey

Mrs Gale’s group –  gladly, sadly, softly, quietly, happily, angrily

Mrs Cousins’ group – short, torch, thorn, worn, porch

Love to Learn

For love to learn, we would like you to draw symmetrical shapes into your love to learn books. Perhaps even make symmetrical art work such as these symmetrical butterflies if you’d like as a challenge! The deadline for this is Wednesday 23rd November.

We’re learning about different types of rock this coming week. If you go anywhere nice this week with different types of rock we would really appreciate it if you could bring in some samples!

We also have a trip on Wednesday. If there are any parents who would like to volunteer to help for the trip please talk to your class teacher.

Please could you check if you have any of the school’s reading books at home and send them back into school. Many thanks.

On Tuesday 29th November, the Chilton Fundraisers will be holding a 'Christmas Lantern Festival' from 3.154.15 on the school field. Mr. Redwood and the school choir will be leading the Christmas carols. There will be hot chocolate and festive cakes available, a tombola, a Christmas shop and a handful of festive games to play. On Monday 28th November, we will be having a nonschool uniform day. On this day we ask the children to bring in a bottle for our Tombola. In addition, on Monday 21st November, we will be sending a white bag home. We ask the children decorate these and add a treat to the bag, for example some sweets or crayons. We would like these brought into school on Monday 28th November, ready to be sold at the Festival on Tuesday.

Wednesday 23rd November – Year 3 trip to Dover museum

Tuesday 29th November – 3.15pm 4.15pm – Christmas Fair and Christmas Lantern Festival

Wednesday 14th December at 9:00 – Christmas Performance

Many thanks

Have a lovely weekend!
