One Childhood, One Chance

Year 3 Weekly News - 24.2.23

English

This week in English, we have started our new book called The Magic Faraway Tree. We have focused on the characters this week and how we can describe them using superlatives (quickest, smartest), expanded noun phrases (pretty, pearl necklace) and verbs and adverbs. The children have made sure that they described more than just the characters' appearance but also their personality, actions, thoughts and feelings.  The children have really taken to this and have written some lovely character descriptions!

Maths

In Maths, we have been focusing on division. We have used different methods of grouping and sharing, using our base 10 to help us with this. We have slowly become more confident with these methods and are going to continue to practice them.

PSHE

On Monday, we learnt about the British Values which are democracy, individual liberty, mutual respect, tolerance of those with other beliefs and faiths and rule of law. We spent our afternoon making British values art work that will be displayed around the school.

Thematic learning

This week we started our new topic – May the force be with you! In the upcoming weeks we will be learning about different force, magnets and light. So on Wednesday we had our Star Wars day where the children began their journey in the Jedi academy. The day started with some Star Wars yoga to increase flexibility. In the afternoon, we built Ewok shelters in forest school and created some artwork using magnetic materials. The children loved Star Wars day and we are very excited for them to become Jedi’s through all their learning this term! On Thursday, the children completed an investigation into friction where we used different material ramps and measured how far a car travelled from the ramp – the further the distance the less friction there is and the shorter the distance travelled the more friction there is. `
