- Parents are invited into Year 6 to take part in a Punctuation and Grammar (PaG) lesson with their child at 3:15pm.  Come and join us to learn a new skill with your child! 

- Number Day - Next Friday (3rd February) is the NSPCC Number Day.  The children are invited to dress up as a Number Rock Star (linked to our Times Table Rock Star) or something linked to number.  Chilton Primary school will be accepting donations for NSPCC.  

- Maths Number Day Parent and child session - Every year group will open their doors at 2:30pm to parents. Class teachers will run a maths session for parents and their children! Our doors will open at 2:30. We look forward to seeing you! 

 

This week, the children have used the video Alma in their writing lesson to plan and write a narrative.  The children have focused on describing, building tension, varying their sentence types, verbs and adverbs as well as using ambitious vocabulary. 

We have focused on our improving our Guided Reading skills this week using sections to summarise as well as finding evidence in a text. 

Next week, Year 6 will be focusing on writing an action-packed narrative using a BBC animal commentary film.  The children will focus on writing what happens in the video playing attention to verbs, adverbs and short punchy sentences.

Darwin's Delights has been fun this week!  We began to understand how organisms use camouflage to survive before playing our own game of Hide and Seek (some children had bright jackets on to stand out; they had to adapt to suit their environment!).  The children also researched the basic needs that all organisms have to live and created their own animal or plant, summarising what they are like.  We studied inheritance and variation, looking for features that we receive from our ancestors.  The children enjoyed a fun activity where they took the strong traits from Mr. Men and Little Miss characters to create new characters.  We also made our own fossils by creating a plaster of Paris cast:

    

    

    

Next week, we will link our learning to our English writing by learning about Darwin's trip to the Galapagos.  We will use maps to track his route and create our own 'Race Around the World' game.
