Another fantastic week in Reception!
We have had another amazing week in Reception and the children continue to flourish. They have been so very engaged with this weeks text.... 'The Naughty Bus'. They also loved their very first pyjama day in school!
The children have now all learnt their set 1 phonics sounds (this includes all the alphabet sounds along with qu, sh, ch, th, ng and nk). We continue with our daily phonics lessons and are so happy to see the children using these sounds to begin to read and write words. They are also beginning to use these sounds in their play, when making lists and giving out tickets for shows.
In maths this week, we have learnt about the concept of more and fewer. We have been comparing groups of objects using this vocabulary. We have also been comparing numbers using the vocabulary more and fewer/less. The children have been learning to recognise numbers to ten and where to find these numbers on a number line.
This week, we started our Transport topic. We have been learning about Transport through the book 'The Naughty Bus'. The children have loved this story and have taken the themes of the story into their play. They have built cages for the bus....so he cannot damage our classroom any more and thought of their own adventures for the bus to go on. This week we have been really impressed with their 'Naughty Bus' writing!
Our parent consultations will take place next week in the school hall. Please enter the school via the main entrance and head up to the hall. If you have not made an appointment, please talk to your child's class teacher next week.
Now that we have covered all the set 1 sounds in phonics, we will not add any new sound to your child's sounds book until after Christmas. Please keep going through the sounds with your child so that they can recognise and say the sounds effortlessly.
We want to build some dens with the children outside in our garden area. If you have any spare old sheets at home, please send them our way.
As part of our Naughty Bus trip, we are heading out for a trip on a real life bus. Please keep an eye out for a letter giving information about the trip.
