One Childhood, One Chance

Friday 7th January

Happy New Year to you all! We hope that you had a lovely Christmas and New Year. The children have come back to school so well and have already impressed us with their positive attitudes and how keen they are to learn. Well done to all of the children.

Love to Learn Task:

At the start of next term our topic will be superheroes!  Your challenge over the holidays is to create your very own superhero, deciding what your outfit would look like and what your superpowers would be.  We would like you to draw your super hero in your love to learn book with labels and maybe a brief description of what your super hero is like.  For example, Mrs Cotton could be Goggle Girl, with the super power of making all children like swimming.  Her cape could be blue with a pair of goggles drawn on the back. On Monday 17th January we will be asking the children to come to school dressed as the superhero they have created (the staff will all be dressing up as well). The costume can be as simple or as elaborate as you would like. We hope you all have a wonderful break and we look forward to seeing your designs.

Phonics:

The children have been continuing to practise Set 1 sounds. They have been practising writing these sounds and reading and writing words with these sounds in. We will let you know when your child starts to learn Set 2 sounds.

Maths:

This week, we have been learning to count up to 20. We have been learning to count objects carefully and reliably and have been learning how to write these numbers. If you are out and about, you could look for numbers (up to 20) and ask your child what number it is (e.g. house numbers).

Topic:

This week we have been learning about our school value ‘courage’. We have read a story about a Penguin who was courageous and thought about times when we have been brave and showed courage. We have also started to learn about our ‘Champion of Courage’ for this term, Nelson Mandela. We have started to learn how he showed courage and will continue to learn about him next week.

Art Competition

Please see the attached poster for the latest art competition. It would be great to see some of our children entering this!

Many thanks for all of your support, from all of the EYFS Team!
