Happy Friday Year 1!
This week in Team Indigo and Team Royal we have been learning…
Read, Write Inc.
This week we have become more settled into our new groups and have enjoyed some wonderful lessons. Our writing is looking wonderful and our sounds are out of this world!
Please keep reading as much as you can with your children at home. Both classes have a reward system for reading, where children can earn prizes and certificates. If you read a story with your child at home and discuss the story, you can also write this in their reading records to :)
This week in Maths we have been learning about money!
We started the week by looking at and recognising coins! We did so well with this and really impressed our teachers. We then moved our learning on by looking at the value of coins. We matched each coin with numicon, which helped us to add up money in jars!
At the end of the week we started to exchange money. For example; 2p, 2p and 1p can be exchanged for 5p.
Keep up the hard work Year 1!
This week we started our new topic; Thunderbolts and Lightning. To start it off we went on an autumn hunt! We discussed the things we could see around us that makes it obvious it’s autumn. We found fallen leaves, pine cones, conkers and berries! We then learnt about the artist Andy Goldsworthy and made nature art, just like him!
We spoke about the different seasons and how they change in the United Kingdom. We ended the week by looking at the different countries in the UK and what to wear in the different seasons. We showed our learning by dressing paper dolls!
Love 2 Learn
This week we would love for you to have a play with money! This could be recognising coins, adding money in a Purse/wallet or exchanging different coins. Have fun!
