One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! w/b 14.3.22

We have had a wonderful week in Year 1!

This week in Team Indigo and Team Royal we have been learning…..

Read, Write Inc.

This week in Read, Write Inc. we have been working so hard phonetically reading words. In particular, we have been looking for special friends in our words, saying the sounds and reading the word. Any practise at home reading a word by finding the special friends, saying the sounds and reading the word would be greatly appreciated!

Maths

This week in maths we have been looking at division. At the beginning of the week we looked at solving problems by sharing equally and finding the number of groups. For instance, there are 9 cookies and 3 plates we shared the cookies equally there were 3 cookies on each plate we are sharing equally. Later in the week we looked at grouping equally we had 8 apples and put 2 apples in each bag. How many bags do I need? I need 4 plates.

Topic

This week we continued to look at explorers from the past and created a large timeline. We looked at facts, plotted the facts and years in the correct order on the timeline.

Later in the week we looked at, identifying and naming a variety of common animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. We found facts about these animals with our partners looking at various resources and wrote a sentence. We then looked what animals eat and put them into groups of carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.

Comic Relief

Wow Team Indigo and Team Royal you really went above and beyond with your amazing efforts, outfits and contribution to Funny is Power! So far we have raised over £400!
