A week with Team Ocean and Team Sky!

Term 3 – Week 2

Maths

This week in Maths we have been looking at telling the time. We can all tell o’clock times but some of us can also read half past times! At first we found it a little tricky and struggled to remember the difference between the minute hand and the hour hand. We did lots of games where the children had to show us their minute hand (with a long straight hand) or hour hand (just showing their hand). We got the hang of this by Wednesday and we then had a go at drawing hands onto a clock to represent times… this was super tricky but we all remembered the difference between the 2 hands! The adults could not have been prouder of the whole of Year 1! Throughout the week we have been checking the clocks in the classroom to tell the time. We have learnt that play time is at 10 o’clock, handwriting finishes at half past 10, RWI starts at 11 o’clock and lunch time is at 12 o’clock! We also had the opportunity to make our own clocks. What a week in Maths we have had!

Religious Education

This week we have been looking at Special Books. We started the week off by thinking about what books were special to us. A lot of us said our favourite bed time books or a book we had received from someone special to us. We then learnt that different groups of people have different special books, just like we all have different ones. We learnt that Christians have a special book called the Bible, Jewish people have a special book called Torah and Muslims have a special book called Qur’an.

Topic

Next week we start our new topic called ‘How Are You?’’ You will have received a letter home on Wednesday 16th January letting you know that on Wednesday 23rd January we will need the children to come into school in their brightest, craziest sportswear ready for a clubbercise session!

Term 3 Art Competition – self-portraits!

On Wednesday 16th January, we had the wonderful Mrs Walton introduce our termly art competition task. This term we ask children to create their very own self portrait. This could be done in any way they like! It could be a photo, it could be a pencil drawing, a painting etc. It could be in any style but the idea is that it represents them.
