One Childhood, One Chance

YEAR 4 Weekly News 16.10.20

English

This week in English we have continued to read the book Fly Eagle Fly. This book shows a farmer who discovers a baby eagle chick after losing his calf in a terrible storm. We began to explore how he may be feeling throughout the story for example, how he felt when he first lost his calf to how his feelings would change after finding an eagle chick. We demonstrated this by using emotive language throughout our writing. The children were brilliant with some of the emotive language writing ideas that they showed. We also moved on to using persuasive language as the farmer’s friend tried to persuade the farmer to release the eagle into the wild.

Maths

In maths this week we have continued learning about time. At the beginning of the week we converted different units of time. For example, converting minute’s seconds to minutes and minutes to hours. We also compared and ordered different time intervals using greater than and less than signs. To end the week we calculated durations of time which children did struggle to begin with however their work ethic throughout the week was exceptional.

Topic

This week’s topic has ranged from science at the beginning of the week to history. In Science we carried on learning about electrical circuits and developed our learning into what conductors and insulators are. Children were really excited about the investigations that we carried out during the week and this really showed in their work. In History we were learning about the Wright brothers and how they changed the future of aircraft by making a timeline of their lives.

Messages

Next term we will be studying Ancient Egypt and we are organising an Ancient Egyptian dress up day in week three of term two. Date to be confirmed.
