One Childhood, One Chance

Year 3 Weekly News 11.2.22

We've had yet another great week in Year 3. Here is what we have been up to...

English

In English this week we have continued to learn the skills needed to write a play script. The children have learnt how to use imperative (bossy) verbs in stage directions to command the actors on stage and also how to choose a range of verbs and adverbs in stage directions to show the actors emotions e.g. Ben hug his Mum tightly. The children are finishing off our unit on play scripts by turning the traditional tale of Little Red Riding Hood into a play script and using all of the features that they have learnt about in this unit.

Maths

In maths this week we have been learning to multiply and divide. We have recapped the written methods that the children learnt earlier in the year of short multiplication (column multiplication) and short division (the bus stop method). It is clearly evident that so many of the children have been working hard on learning their times tables by heart and playing Times Tables Rockstars at home, as their quick recall of multiplication facts was so much better this time round - well done guys, keep it up!

Safer Internet Week

This week the children have been busy learning about how to stay safe online and how to treat people with kindness when online. They have created a class set of rules about how to be kind online and also learnt about how important it is to not talk to people that they do not know when online and not to give out their personal information to strangers online either.

Love to Learn

For the children's half term challenge we would like them to try to complete the Reading Bingo sheet that will be sent home on Friday 11th February. We would love it if everyone in Year 3 could complete the bingo!

We would also like the children to create an online safety poster or create an online safety video using what they have learnt this week. Videos can be emailed to Mrs Cousins or Mr Mason at claire.cousins@chiltonprimary.co.uk or sean.mason@chiltonprimary.co.uk. We look forward to seeing your posters and videos!

- Monday 21st February is a Staff Development Day so we look forward to seeing the children on Tuesday 22nd February.

World Book Day

World Book Day is on Thursday 3rd March.  Children are invited to dress up as any character from a book.  They can also bring in a book to share with their class.

Throughout the day, the children will read a variety of stories with their class teacher and hear other adults read their favourite story or poem via a video link. The children’s learning during the day will focus on ‘Poetry for All’ and every class will explore a different poetry text.  The children will take part in reading and performing poetry, writing creatively and exploring the text’s illustrations to inspire their writing.

All children have been given a reading bingo card that offers a wide range of challenges that they can complete at home (either one challenge or many). Please sign your child’s bingo card and return to school by Friday 4th March.  Winners will be chosen and prizes will be given.

Children in years 2-6 will be set a MyOn reading challenge.  They can access this challenge via www.myon.co.uk

- This week the Chilton Fundraisers will be sending home a tube of smarties for each of the children. Once they have eaten the contents, we ask that they fill the tube up with 20p coins* and return the tube to school by Friday 25th February. They could do some helpful jobs around the house to earn the money.

*Please note, whilst we suggest 20p coins,  we are happy with any donation.

Thanks in advance for any contributions you make.

- NEXT TERM PE WILL BE ON A TUESDAY - PLEASE WEAR PE KITS FIRST DAY BACK AND EVERY TUESDAY

- STAR WARS DRESS UP DAY IS CHANGED TO WEDNESDAY 23RD FEBRUARY

WE HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A LOVELY HALF TERM!

Many thanks
