Weekly News – 29th November 2019
In Maths this week, we have been working on finding perimeter and area. We looked at how to find the perimeter of shapes with given lengths and how we could use shortcuts for particular shapes .We then moved on to measuring lengths and calculating perimeter. We looked at how to find area by counting centimetre squares that are inside of the shape. We then investigated the relationship between area and perimeter and how they affect each other.
In English, we have continued to read ‘The Ice Palace’ and we are considering Ivan’s location. We wrote non-fiction information texts on how to survive in extreme cold. We structured our work into logical paragraphs and we used technical vocabulary, a range of conjunctions and a range of presentational devices in our work.
We have continued to work on our new Egyptian IPC unit in Topic. On Monday, we researched the great pharaohs of Egypt and completed a number of partner and group activities to help further our research including playing a game of ‘Find Someone Who’. On Tuesday, we learned all about mummification and, as we had no dead bodies readily available, we practised our embalming skills on tomatoes.
We are still encouraging the children to play as much Times Tables Rockstars (ttrockstars.com) at home. When logging in, please select ‘Chilton Primary School, Ramsgate’. Children’s log ins are the same as their MyMaths log ins (please see your teacher if you need your child’s log in).
For home learning this week, there is a MyMaths task set, due Friday 6th December.
Online book club!
So that the children can share their reading choices we have created an online book club. When they have read a book that they have loved, they can log in and write a review on our site. The link to this site is below:
The children will be given a password so only the children and families of Year 4 can view comments.
We can't wait to see what they are reading!
