One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News 8.10.21

This week we have been learning about multiplication and division. We began the week by understanding the factors of a number and how many factors a number can have! Towards the end of the week, we began to look at division. We made links between arrays, short division and sharing which moved onto partitioning numbers to try and make dividing easier! This leads very well for our formal methods next week.

Throughout our English this week we have started to write some brilliant pieces of suspense writing. We have re written ‘The Iron Man’ story setting the scene in a scary place, building up tension and meeting a beast. It is wonderful to read some of the children’s examples! Today we have also learnt about how to vary our sentence length to create suspense. The children understood that quick and slow sentences can create suspense when used correctly!

This week the children have had an amazing time learning about the teeth! We found out what teeth animals have and why, what teeth we have and why we have them and finished off by creating our own jaws and teeth with clay. The results are incredible!

For maths this week we would like you to practice the partitioning method that we had a go at today. For example,

64 ÷ 4 = 16

40 ÷ 4 = 10

24 ÷ 4 = 6

Have a go at

52 ÷ 4

64 ÷ 2 =

96 ÷ 3 =

48 ÷ 4 =

For English we would like the children to have a think about what story they are going to create next week. Write a brief paragraph about where the story is going to be, what is going to happen, what is the beast going to do to their character and how their character is going to save themselves from the beast.

We would like to apologise for not handing out the Love to Learn books this week!

Have a lovely weekend!
