Year 4 Weekly News 17.6.22
What a scorching end to the week! Despite the heat, Year 4 have been working so hard!
This week we have been writing monologues as Edward, the china rabbit. We used incredibly mature vocabulary and was able to write in role so accurately. We are absolutely loving our new book although we're not too keen on Edward at the moment - he is rather pompous and arrogant. Next week we will be meeting some new characters - protagonists and an antagonist. We will be using inference to learn and write about them showing off all of our skills that we've learnt across the year.
This week we took our multiplication check. We are so unbelievably proud of the children and their hard work learning all of their times tables facts, Thank you for all of your support at home. We have also been consolidating our understanding of fraction of number. We were AMAZING at this! Finally, we practised addition and subtraction strategies in the context of measure.
Next week we will be recapping our understanding of area and perimeter. We will also explore the use of brackets in calculations.
We have begun our final topic all about earthquakes and volcanoes. This week we learnt about, drew and then made the layers of the earth using Plasticine. When we cut them in half it was amazing to see the layers of the Earth. Next week we will be locating major volcanoes around the world, learning about tectonic plates and finding about the dangers of volcanoes.
We are reading a book about the volcanic explosion in Pompeii. We would like the children to research Mount Vesuvius. They can show their learning in any way they would like.
Please continue to practise the weekly personalised spellings ready for Friday.
Summer fair is next Friday after school on the top field. We can't wait to see you there! Please bring in any white bags with treats by next Thursday.
Have a wonderful weekend,
The Year 4 Team
