Weekly News

Check out what Year 4 have been up to this week!

Weekly News – 15th March 2019

Congratulations to Millie Lunn, Anna Watters, Herbie Hales and Finley Munson for their superb effort in this week’s Spelling Bee.

In our Maths lessons this week, we have been working on different skills linked to the four operations. We have looked at estimating addition and subtraction problems, using the inverse to check our answers, two-step word problems and using factor pairs in multiplication.

In English, we have continued looking at ‘Tales of Wisdom and Wonder’, reading a French tale called ‘The White Rat. The story was about a rat transforming into a princess and trying to find a husband. Our writing focus for the week was playscripts so we rewrote the story into a playscript, spending different days focusing on character speech, narration and stage directions. We then further practised our playscript skills by rewriting other tales we had previously read.

Team Aqua continued their Computing unit, learning how to use ‘word’ to type on a laptop. Team Topaz learnt some French commands and ordered some instructions on how to play conkers.

We have now started our ‘Active Planet’ topic, learning all about different features of volcanoes. We also located and marked them on a map before picking different volcanoes from around the world and researching them. We have also been listening to different pieces of music based on natural features of the earth and we completed a big write describing one after listening.

KS1 will be having an Easter Bonnet parade on the 5th April. KS2 children are welcome to make their own Easter bonnets which will be judged in class by teachers.

Home learning:

There is no right or wrong way to complete a Love to Learn task! Please be as imaginative or as creative as you would like! Love to Learn tasks should be returned on the Wednesday following them being set. Whilst books may not be formally marked, in class we will spend time looking at and enjoying what everyone has learned at home and rewards and house points will be given!

We are setting a home learning competition to create a shoebox space scene. This can be anything you want it to be, but must be space themed. Small prizes will be given to the winners from each year group. Additional credits will be awarded for accuracy, creativity and imagination. Good luck!    Deadline: Monday 18th March.
