One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News

Have a look at what Year 4 have been up to this week!

Weekly News – 28th June 2018

In our Maths lessons this week, we have been looking at properties of shapes. We spent time classifying triangles and quadrilaterals and discussing the different ways we could classify shapes. We then extended our classifications, including a range of polygons and classify by number of vertices, lines of symmetry and angles. We also undertake an investigation finding and classifying different shapes from around the school.

In English, we have continued reading ‘Wizards of Once’ and we are now following our protagonists on their journey to the Wizard fort. We have found all of the features of persuasive writing and written our own persuasive letters in role of characters from the book.

The children have also been completing end of year NFER assessments.

In Topic, we have completed our ‘Shake It!’ topic and started our new exciting topic ‘The Nature of Life’. We have continued working on our RE Buddhism curriculum and our values focus has been around kindness and the impact of words can have on our peers.

There is no right or wrong way to complete a Love to Learn task! Please be as imaginative or as creative as you would like! Love to Learn tasks should be returned on the Wednesday following them being set. Whilst books may not be formally marked, in class we will spend time looking at and enjoying what everyone has learned at home and rewards and house points will be given!

For our Egg-xit point, the children took home an egg this week. Their home learning is to complete a home experiment resulting in the egg turning to a different state (eg. Liquid to solid).
