One Childhood, One Chance

14.2.25 Weekly News!

14.02.2025 Weekly News!

We have had a wonderful term in Year 5! This week we have completed quizzes to test our knowledge of the Anglo-Saxons, as well as Running on Empty (our book this term).  We have learnt so much!

English

This week, we have written our own extended narrative about a time we competed in an event. We thought about creating suspense in our writing, the emotions we felt and the atmosphere.

Next term, we will start with a week of Oracy. We will be planning, writing and presenting a speech all about a subject we would add to our school curriculum.

Maths

This week, we started by adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator. We then practised adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators.

Next week, we will be developing our knowledge of improper and mixed number fractions and converting from one to another.

Thematic

This week, we have completed our Marvels of Matter learning with a few experiments with fire, ice and reactions to prove if changes are reversible or irreversible.

Next term, we will start with PSHE by looking at the British Values and the 9 protected characteristics. We will then move on to the importance of good oracy.
