English
This week, the children watched David Attenborough’s chase scene, ‘Iguanas versus Snakes’, from Planet Earth II and wrote a narrative based on its content. The children employed ambitious vocabulary really thinking about the audience’s reaction to their writing. Varied sentence openers were used to create tension and suspense to engage the reader.
Maths
This week, the children reviewed their understanding of converting units of mass. They started by using their fluency to answer a range of single step problems. Later, they applied their understanding to reading a range of tables and graphs to find converted amounts. Finally, they worked on worded problems, some of which required multi-steps, so that they had to call on their problem-solving strategies.
This week the children also took part in the NSPCC number day. The day was maths focused where they applied their mathematical skills in lots of engaging and practical ways.
Thematic
In the afternoon this week, the children worked primarily on Design and Technology skills. They started the week by undertaking some market research where they asked fellow pupils' opinions on types of flapjacks. Once they had a favourite specified, they planned their ingredients and method. They followed this by making their flapjacks! We had some very happy customers! To finalise the week, the children evaluated the making of their flapjacks.
Art
This week, the children reflected on some of the artists they have researched so far who specialise in quilling. They then reviewed their designs made last week and spent time thinking about how they could use more varied quilling techniques. The children spent the rest of the time finalising their designs for the school display.
French
This week we started to explore different French foods and the French vocabulary associated with them. The children learnt how to describe what their likes and dislikes are.
Home learning task:
-
Spelling. Please can the children learn the following spellings for a spelling test on Friday 14th February: possibly, sensibly, understandably, reasonably, visibly, incredibly, horribly, terribly, believably, presumably.
-
Love to Learn: We would like the children to design some packaging for their cheese flapjacks that they made this week. They need to consider nutritional values, ingredients, price, a picture to engage the consumer and any key selling points.
